My Review on A Boy. A Girl. A Dream. (2018) starring Omari Hardwick & Megan Good

For all of you hardcore Indie Film supporters, there is a little gem of a film floating around titled

"A Boy. A Girl. A Dream." (2018).

We are introduced to Cass, a local film director and Frida, a visitor from the Midwest. Cass (Omari Hardwick) has a dream that he'd like to fulfill someday while Frida (Meagan Good) is attempting to pull away from a rocky past and pursue a new life. The film uses the 2016 presidential election as its backdrop. We also see how the outcome of the election disrupts the characters' outlook on the country's future. This "Boy meets Girl" lovestory is quite simple and the performances are wonderful.

The leads do an excellent job of carrying this tale. Hardwick always delivers his best performance as a troubled character with a lot on his plate. He is successful doing this as Ghost in Starz' "Power", he was great in season 1 of "Being Mary Jane" (2015) and even in Tyler Perry's "For Colored Girls" (2010).

Meagan Good's character Frida or "Free" is equally as compelling. She is simply trying to find her way in L.A. She also seems to have a lot on her plate. I do feel that this performance shows us that Good is another underrated actress who has yet to receive her just reward (Maybe I'll have to write the perfect part for her).

Both Good and Hardwick are Executive producers on this 90 minute feature that takes us on a short trip through the awkwardness of first impressions, figuring out one's feelings for one another, where we fit in eachothers lives and where we fit in an imperfect world.

This is a film that is perfect for actors studying the craft of how to deliver strong yet nuanced performances and filmmakers looking for new creative ways to push the technical aspects of their projects. The most impressive thing about this film is that it was shot in ONE TAKE!!!! That means a 90 minute continuous shot...no cuts! Director Qasim Basir said it took several months of planning and it was the hardest thing he's ever done. Folks, this is passionate filmmaking at its best and he had actors that were trustworthy!

"A Boy. A Girl. A Dream." (2018) was release exactly one week ago today. Indie films unfortunately get short runs so hurry up and catch it this weekend at one these 4 remaining theatres around the city:
