My review on "Midsommar" 2019 starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor

A couple, along with a group of friends travel to Sweden to partake in a rural town's legendary mid-summer festival. Everything is cool at first until...well...it's not. 🤔

Director, Ari Aster's "Midsommar" (2019) is significant in his execution this piece. Our main character, "Dani" played by Florence Pugh deals with loss, a struggling relationship (Jack Reynor) and ultimately...the trip of a lifetime! The film is brilliant because nothing is ever right from the opening scenes. Everything is just a little off and you never really feel comfortable.

This is a film one should go into with an open mind. Much of what you will see will be challenging. The characters in the film are under complete control by the laws and traditions that govern this small Swedish group of fanatics! In comparison, we have seen some behaviors and practices in our own churches, governments and societies across the globe. This film shows us that there is a tremendous level of horror in controlled chaos and individuals or groups with "God" complexes.

Aster's "Midsommar" takes on a beautiful and tragic journey of the mind when the only hand that is dealt results in hopelessness and utter despair.

The Cinematography is masterful here capturing both absolute beauty and tragedy in every frame. Director of Photography, Pawel Pogorzelski is unwavering in his approach to capturing scenes of loneliness, despair, confused joy and peril through this tales. I love how the camera tells the story.🎥 The post production coloring is magnificent.

This tale is for hardcore cinephiles and true lovers of the art of filmmaking. This is definitely not for the faint of heart.
